Montpellier, France — Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) participated in the International Conference on Inorganic Membranes (ICIM 2026), held in Montpellier, France, from 29 June to 3 July 2026. Themed “Membranes Today & Keys for the Future,” the conference served as an important international forum for advancing membrane science and technology.
ICIM 2026 brought together 310 participants from 32 countries, featuring six plenary lectures, 20 keynote presentations, and 15 invited presentations. The conference also provided opportunities for young researchers through 36 PhD pitches and fostered connections between the academic community and industry through 10 industry pitches.
Representing Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Adi Darmawan presented his research entitled “Tailoring Graphene Oxide Membranes via Polymer Intercalation and Crosslinking.” The study explores strategies for modifying graphene oxide (GO)-based membranes through polymer intercalation and crosslinking to improve membrane stability and performance for desalination applications.
In addition to faculty participation, Hasan Muhtar, a Master’s student in Chemistry at Universitas Diponegoro, also participated in ICIM 2026 through the poster session. He presented his research entitled “Rational Design of Graphene Oxide–Hyperbranched Polymer Membranes for Desalination.” His research focuses on the design of graphene oxide and hyperbranched polymer-based membranes as an effort to develop membrane materials with characteristics that can enhance desalination performance.
The student’s participation in the poster session provided an opportunity to introduce research conducted within the Master’s Program in Chemistry at Universitas Diponegoro to the international membrane research community. It also enabled him to receive scientific feedback, exchange ideas, and establish academic networks with researchers from various countries.
The participation of UNDIP faculty and students in ICIM 2026 represents an important opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in membrane technology, exchange ideas with the international scientific community, and strengthen Universitas Diponegoro’s academic presence in the fields of materials science and membrane technology.
The conference also opens opportunities for future international academic and research collaborations, further supporting UNDIP’s commitment to expanding its global academic engagement and contributing to the advancement of innovative membrane technologies.
