From Campus Life to Public Service: Putri Rossadi’s (Chemistry 20) Career Journey as a Public Health Laboratory Officer

A strong commitment to learning, active involvement in student organizations, and hands-on laboratory experience during university years have become valuable assets for Putri Rossadi, an alumna of the Department of Chemistry, Class of 2020, who is now pursuing a career as a Public Health Laboratory Officer (First Expert Level) at the Public Health Laboratory (Labkesmas) of Sukamara Regency, Central Kalimantan.

Graduating in 2024, Putri currently serves as a civil servant under the Sukamara Regency Health Office. In her position, she is responsible for laboratory administration and inventory management, as well as conducting environmental testing to support public health monitoring and services.

During her studies in the Department of Chemistry, Putri actively participated in various student activities. She was a member of the Chemistry Student Association (HMK) and served as the Head of the Human Resource Development Division. One of her most memorable experiences was working in the Biochemistry Laboratory, where she gained practical skills and valuable insights into laboratory work.

Putri also achieved notable accomplishments during her undergraduate years. Among them was winning Third Place in the National Essay Competition organized by Sebelas Maret University, demonstrating her critical thinking skills and scientific creativity.

For Putri, the Biochemistry course left a lasting impression throughout her academic journey. The guidance and mentorship provided by Mrs. Agustin and Mr. Asyari significantly influenced her academic development and strengthened her interest in laboratory sciences.

In her current profession, Putri finds that the laboratory skills she acquired during college are highly relevant and beneficial. In addition, public speaking abilities, networking, leadership, and social skills have proven essential in navigating professional environments. One of the challenges she has encountered is negotiating within bureaucratic systems, which requires effective communication and adaptability.

Drawing from her experience, Putri encourages current Chemistry students to embrace and learn from every opportunity during their university years.

“Enjoy and learn from everything you experience during college, because whatever happens during that period will become valuable knowledge and preparation for entering the real world—the world of work,” she said.

She also hopes that the Department of Chemistry will continue to innovate in producing graduates who excel not only in scientific knowledge but also possess strong character and interpersonal skills needed to thrive in the professional world.

Putri Rossadi’s story serves as an inspiration that experiences gained through laboratory activities, student organizations, and competitions can become a solid foundation for making meaningful contributions to society through one’s profession.
