The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening international academic networks through the UNDIP Global Classroom held on May 29, 2026. The event featured Cahyo Budiman from Universiti Malaysia Sabah as the guest speaker, presenting a lecture entitled “From Signal to Strength: The Role of Membrane Receptor Proteins in Muscle Contraction.”
This international academic activity was coordinated by Dwi Hudiyanti, who served as both moderator and person in charge of the event. Through this academic forum, students and faculty members had the opportunity to interact directly with an international expert and broaden their understanding of recent developments in the field of Biophysical Chemistry.
In his presentation, Dr. Cahyo Budiman explained how membrane receptor proteins function as essential components of cellular communication systems. These proteins receive signals from the external environment and transmit them into the cell through complex signal transduction pathways. This process ultimately regulates the activation of contractile proteins, enabling coordinated muscle contraction.
The presentation covered not only the fundamental mechanisms of muscle contraction but also their relevance to various modern research fields, including cell physiology, neuromuscular diseases, molecular target-based therapeutic development, and health biotechnology. The comprehensive and research-driven discussion provided deeper insights into the relationship between membrane protein structure, biological signal transmission, and muscle physiological function.
The discussion session was highly interactive, with participants showing great enthusiasm. Their engagement reflected a strong interest in interdisciplinary research that connects molecular-level mechanisms with health and biomedical applications.
Through the UNDIP Global Classroom program, Universitas Diponegoro continues to foster a globally oriented academic environment, strengthen international collaborations, and enhance the quality of education and research. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step toward broader cooperation between Universitas Diponegoro and Universiti Malaysia Sabah in education, research, and scientific publications.
